EAF EMS

In steelmaking, the way liquid steel moves inside a vessel can influence heat transfer, temperature distribution, chemical homogeneity and overall process stability. Electromagnetic stirring provides a contactless way to control this movement by generating forces directly within the molten bath.

In these applications, the electromagnetic action is defined around the process conditions, vessel geometry and the circulation pattern required. The objective is to create controlled bath movement where it can support more effective heat and mass transfer, more uniform thermal and chemical conditions, and greater operating consistency.

This application area brings electromagnetic flow control into steelmaking stages where liquid-steel circulation is itself a process variable. The stirring system is therefore engineered around the specific metallurgical and operational requirements of the installation, together with the power supply, cooling, automation and plant interfaces required for reliable operation.

KEY BENEFITS

  • Contactless liquid-steel flow control: electromagnetic forces generate controlled bath movement without mechanical components acting directly on the molten steel.
  • Improved heat and mass transfer: controlled circulation supports the exchange of heat and material within the liquid-steel bath.
  • Bath homogenization: stirring can support more uniform thermal and chemical conditions according to the requirements of the process.
  • Application-specific flow control: electromagnetic action is engineered around vessel geometry, operating conditions and the circulation pattern required.
  • Integrated system approach: stirrer, power supply, cooling, automation and plant interfaces are developed as coordinated parts of the same process system.
