ELECTROMAGNETIC STIRRING FOR BILLET AND BLOOM CASTERS.
Our products

In billet and bloom continuous casting, product quality depends to a large extent on how liquid steel is controlled during solidification. In these compact sections, electromagnetic forces can be applied through rotative stirrers that set the liquid pool in motion around its own axis, improving heat transfer, shell regularity and the internal quality of the cast product.

The EMS family for billet and bloom casters should not be read as a sequence of similar machines, but as three intervention points along the same process. M-EMS acts in the mold, where meniscus behavior, first-shell formation and surface and subsurface quality are established. S-EMS works lower along the strand and helps improve internal homogenization, equiaxed structure and solidification control in specific casting domains. F-EMS acts in the final stage of solidification, where the product center is still mushy and the reduction of center segregation and porosity becomes the priority.

This logic makes it possible to select the right technology based on the actual process issue to be controlled, not on a generic machine preference. EMS therefore becomes a true process lever rather than an accessory added to the caster.

Key benefits:

  • better control of initial solidification and surface quality;
  • improved internal structure, with positive effects on the equiaxed zone, segregation and porosity;
  • a stronger balance between metallurgical quality, casting stability and plant productivity.

Rotelec develops EMS solutions for billets and blooms starting from the point in the process where control generates the highest value. The detailed product pages explain the specific role of M-EMS, S-EMS and F-EMS.
