Multi-Mode® EMB+S
MoldMode electromagnetic braking and stirring technology for conventional and thin slabs.
POSITIONING
Electromagnetic braking and stirring systems are mounted on a retractable manipulator which allows the inductors to be moved just behind the backup plates of each mold.
FEATURES
Multi-Mode® Electromagnetic Braking + Stirring (MM-EMB+S) is the latest state-of-art mold braking and stirring system, specially designed for the new generation of DANIELI DUE+ high-speed quality caster. The DC magnetic brake generates a DC magnetic field correctly positioned in space and adjusted in intensity while the Linear stirrers generate a travelling magnetic field by means of 2-phase AC current, whose direction, intensity and frequency are electrically controlled. All systems utilize proprietary software for real-time flow pattern prediction and automatic parameter adjustment.
METALLURGICAL BENEFITS
- Defect reduction: eliminates defects from excessive flow (e.g., slivers, lubrication loss, breakout alarms) and corrects issues from weak/unstable flow (e.g., alumina inclusions, cold meniscus, longitudinal cracks).
- Quantitative flow control: actively corrects steel flow patterns (single-roll, unstable, weak/strong double-roll) to optimize slab quality and productivity.
- Meniscus & shell uniformity: controls flows at the meniscus to wash the solidification front, reducing inclusions, equalize temperature, and achieve uniform powder melting and shell thickness.
- Operational flexibility: allows variation in casting speed without compromising slab quality, even at very high throughput.
- Productivity gains: reduces downgrade and scrap rates, minimizes scarfing/grinding, and lowers breakout alarms, leading to increased yield and a rapid return on investment (approx. one year).
